About the course
Aim
After the course the student will:
- be able to explain constituents, structures and their appropriate applications for fibre reinforced composite materials
- be able to explain and exemplify manufacturing processes and methods for fibre reinforced composite materials, as well as argue for their applicability in regards to tooling and process parameters
- be able to reflect on how materials, tools and the production process interacts and use this to analyse new manufacturing contexts
- be able to exemplify how relevant work environment and safety directives can affect the production system
- be able to demonstrate knowledge on methods for verifying a production process
- have acquired practical experience from an advanced technical system or process.
Content
The aim of this course is to give the student knowledge about the production system, the technologies, processes, directives and the interactions between them. Advanced production processes, technologies and systems are used to illustrate these links. Examples of such are composite materials and manufacturing, casting and collaborative applications where humans and robots work together in the same, shared space. These are put in relation to material requirements, tooling technologies, work environment & safety directives etc. The course will have a production engineering focus and present industrial practice. Finally, the course contains an element where the student shall make an investigation of a method or process and present this in a technical report as well as a verbal presentation.
The course lectures will present the processes, materials, directives and technologies. One lecture will address Industry 4.0 and Smart factory and how this impacts the future production system. The course also contains laboratory work that will deepen the understanding of specific production processes or technologies.
