About the course
Aim
The course aims to provide basic knowledge of fundamental limits for and methods for compression, transmission, error protection and storage of information.
After completing the course, students should be able to:
I. Explain, describe, or summarize concepts, relationships, and methods belonging to the field of information-bearing signals and its frequency representation, the process of sampling, the fundamentals of source and channel coding, analog and digital transmission over different media, and sustainability aspects of information and communications engineering systems.
II. Critically think, interpret, and apply the concepts related to information and communications engineering systems to fictional or real-world problems and perform related calculations.
III. Formulate original algorithmic solutions for problems related to the course contents and implement those in conventional programming language and be able to explain and report results.
Content
Time- and band-limited signals.
Sampling theorem and Nyquist criterion for digital signal processing and information transmission.
Noisy signals.
