About the course
Aim
The aim of the course is to provide insight into principles and methods for design of analog filters. After the course, the student should be able to:
- Explain basic concepts and principles of analog filters as well as synthesize filters using standard methods.
- Realize and analyze passive filters.
- Realize and analyze active filters.
- Use computer programs to synthesize analog filters and implement passive and active filters using physical components.
Content
The lectures, exercises, and laboratory work cover:
- Filter Synthesis: Basic concepts and principles of analog filters, specifications, standard approximations, frequency transformations.
- Passive filters: Realization and implementation, discrete and distributed components, resistors, inductors, capacitors, unit elements, ladder structures, Richard’s structures, lattice structures, computation of component values, component sensitivity, frequency transformations.
- Active filters: Realization and implementation, discrete components, resistors, capacitors, operational amplifiers, realization of first- and second-order sections, cascade realizations, coupled forms, simulation of passive ladder structures, topologic simulation, immittance simulation, computation of component values, component sensitivity, scaling of signal levels.
