About the course
Aim
The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge about methods for the analysis of linear discrete-time systems and to serve as preparation for other courses. After the course, the student is expected to be able to:
- analyze and perform computations on discrete-time signals and systems in the time domain
- use transforms to analyze and perform computations on discrete-time signals and systems
- analyze and perform computations on mixed continuous-time and discrete-time systems, especially sampling and reconstruction as well as systems with different sampling rates.
- use computer programs to solve problems within discrete-time systems
Content
- Signals and systems: Classification of signals and systems, discrete-time signals and systems, signal and system analysis, impulse and step responses, linearity, time invariance, stability, causality, computation of output signals, difference equations, convolution, introduction to discrete-time filters, realization and implementation.
- Transforms: z-transform, transfer function, poles and zeros, stability and causality, Fourier series and Fourier transform, frequency response, discrete Fourier transform (DFT).
- Sampling and reconstruction: Sampling, quantization, sampling theorem, reconstruction, anti-imaging and reconstruction filter, mixed continuous-time and discrete-time signals and systems, systems with different samplings rates, interpolation and decimation, signal and system analysis in the time and Fourier domain.
