About the course
Aim
After the course, the student should be able to:
- describe the function of the techniques introduced in the lectures.
- explain the working principle of each technique.
- describe the application range of each technique.
- analyze typical characterization data obtained from the discussed techniques.
Content
- Nanoscale characterization: basic principles and functions of AFM and SEM.
- Optical spectroscopy: FTIR, UV-vis and others.
- Photoelectron spectroscopy and Synchrotron-based x-ray absorption spectroscopy (NEXAFS): basic background, examples of application and data analysis.
- Mechanical characterization: Introduction of mechanical properties of materials and applications of rheometry.
- Electrical characterization: Introduction of basic characterization methods and applications.
- Functional material characterization: introduction of piezo-/pyro-electric materials and devices, along with appropriate characterization methods.
