About the course
Aim
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- Explain in detail how a photo is digitized, stored and displayed on screen.
- Describe and apply basic operations on digital images, such as grayscale transformations, histogram analysis and intensity changes.
- Explain in detail and use filters in the spatial domain for image enhancement.
- Explain color vision, different color systems and principles for representing color.
- Carry out calculations of color stimuli with respect to sensor response and the observer's experience.
- Explain objective quality measures for images and relate these to subjective assessments.
- Explain, apply and assess AI methods for image processing and image analysis, including risks.
- Explain how training data affects the quality of the results, both objectively and subjectively, when using AI methods for image processing and image analysis.
Content
Digitization and reproduction of images on screen, basic image operations. Spatial filters. Color systems and principles for representing color. Calculation of color stimuli with respect to sensors and observer. Objective and AI-based quality measures and comparison with subjective assessments.
