About the course
Aim
The student should after completing the course:
- Describe the ongoing digitalization within construction and relate it to its possibilities and limitations regarding the construction supply chains.
- Describe and reflect on the digitalization of construction and its potential to create efficient and sustainable supply chains within urban development.
- Describe the ongoing developments in digital technologies and reflect on their potential utilization within digitized logistics flows.
- Demonstrate how digital technologies can be utilized to digitalize supply chains and evaluate the potential to integrate them within the planning, production, and supply processes of construction sites.
- Map and analyze challenges and effects of digitized supply chains within construction concerning sustainability and efficiency.
Content
The course aims to be a concluding course in the master's program that builds upon most of the courses included in the program, combining sustainability and digitalization aspects within construction supply chains. The course focuses on the prerequisites, obstacles, opportunities, etc., for establishing, operating, and utilizing the connected construction site and its supply chain in a sustainable and smart way, thereby touching upon:
- Digital supply chain management (SCM) and planning;
- Digitized logistics flows for off-site and on-site logistics, including logistics automation, track and trace, etc. for the sector’s numerous and various stakeholders;
- Data requirements and data availability in assessing the performance and sustainability of construction supply chains;
- Big data, IoT and blockchain technologies (blockchains/distributed ledgers/digital contract forms, etc.) and their function for digital supply chains;
- Business intelligence (BI), data visualization and similar systems for analysis and evaluation of supply chains, and the link with AI/ML and its usefulness for digital construction supply chains.
