About the course
Aim
The course aims to provide technical and physical knowledge of solid bedrock as well as loose soils in order to serve as a foundation for various construction projects. The course will create an understanding of the technical problems that exist before a construction project on and in ground/bedrock. After completing the course the student should:
· Be able to describe the solid bedrock from a rock mechanical perspective.
· Be able to describe the impact of quaternary geological formations on community planning.
· Have knowledge of soil structure and mechanical properties.
· Have knowledge of different geological and geotechnical investigative methods in the field.
· Be able to calculate stresses, deformations and bearing capacity in rocks and soils.
Content
Basic geology, rock formation, tectonics, erosion, quaternary geology, soil material sciences, soil mechanics, rock mechanics, seismic, fracture mapping, probing methods, analysis of rock and soil, determination of strength parameters.
