About the course
Aim
After completion of the course, the student must be able to:
- Describe the fundamental laws governing fluid flow equations and their application in solving fluid dynamics problems.
- Explain the physical and mathematical state of fluid dynamics problems through the analysis of fluid properties, flow characteristics, and boundary layer theory.
- Apply appropriate equations, boundary conditions, and numerical methods to solve elementary fluid mechanics problems.
- Evaluate solutions to fluid dynamics problems by assessing numerical schemes, boundary conditions, and physical/mathematical assumptions.
- Present the work in a clear, informative and scientific way.
- Be aware of the role of the subject area in addressing various sustainable development goals (United Nations Agenda 2030).
Content
Historical perspective, fundamental equaions (continuity, Euler´s equations, Navier-Stokes´ equations, boundary layer equations, etc), laminar and turbulent flow, external and internal flows, compressible flow and non-stationary flow, introduction to numerical methods in fluid mechanics and an introduction to modelling of turbulence
