About the course
Aim
This course provides an understanding of how more resource-efficient products and production systems can be designed. At the end of the course, students should:
- Understand and be able to use strategies / principles to design more resource-efficient products and production systems
- be able to perform a DFM / DFA /DFD analysis
- be able to manage requirements and concept selection
Content
The course deals with various aspects regarding the design of resource-efficient products and production systems. The course sheds light on the basic principles of production technology, product development and environmentally driven product development. Topics covered are basic concepts (eg life cycle perspective, life cycle cost, environmental effect, sub-optimization and function sales) and how product development, choice of production and remanufacturing technology affect product and environmental efficiency during its life cycle. Furthermore, the course addresses strategies / principles for increasing resource efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of production, use and remanufacturing.
Finally, the methods Environmental Impact Assessment, DFM, DFA and DFD are treated.
