About the course

Aim

The aim of the course is to develop the ability of exchange students to communicate successfully in English with an emphasis on the written word. The course aims to help students to write English in a way which is both accurate and appropriate in a professional or academic context. After completing the course, the student should have also developed reading strategies for different situations. After the course, the student shall be able to:

  • Choose the most appropriate reading strategy for a particular text
  • Evaluate his or her own strengths and weaknesses and select and apply appropriate strategies to compensate for these weaknesses
  • Extract the main points in a text and summarise the text in correct English
  • Write a report or short article on a scientific or economic subject in an appropriate style and using grammatically correct English
  • Select and apply an appropriate register and vocabulary for the situation at hand
  • Structure and write a formal letter

Content

The course is based on texts of both a general scientific nature and which are connected to the world of business and economics. Texts are chosen to facilitate and motivate the training of communicative skills, both spoken and written. The students will also be given the opportunity to write a CV and letter of application for employment.
