About the course

Aim

The purpose of the course is for students to develop knowledge and abilities within the field of entrepreneurship and innovation within early stages of development. Focus is on the formulation and development of entrepreneurial and innovative technological ideas in eHealth and includes some ability to assess the potential of commercialisation. The learning outcomes are that students should:

  • be able to define the concepts of innovation and entrepreneurship in general as well as in the context of their own area of technology and in the context of eHealth
  • have basic knowledge on theories and tools for idea development
  • be able to give an account of the information and analyses required to verify an idea and have ability to assess its commercial potential
  • describe, on an overall level, the regulatory framework relevant to eHealth and, for a given idea, identify relevant parts of this framework
  • be able to communicate a business idea proposal orally and in writing
  • be able to describe the development and implementation of innovative business ideas in the eHealth area from an overall system perspective, including how individuals and organizations can participate in this development.

Content

The course contains three themes:

  • Entrepreneurship and innovation – Students are faced with different perspectives on entrepreneurship and technological innovation, in general and in the context of eHealth. We ask ourselves what an entrepreneurial versus innovative venture is or might be and in what contexts it can appear.
  • Idea development and communication – the process to develop an idea into a business model. Focus is on how to formulate, develop and communicate an idea within eHealth in collaboration with individuals and organisations. We discuss how the idea can lead to new or further development of a business, how to protect it and how to gain entry on a market, and what is required for a venture to become viable.
  • Regulatory framework relevant to eHealth, such as GDPR, medical technology regulations, intellectual property regulations, patient data regulations etc.
