Internship in Ethology and animal biology

Aim

The main goal of the course is for the student to gain work experience at a workplace relevant to their education. Examples of such workplaces include those focusing on applied aspects within animal biology, animal welfare, and behavior, as well as legislative aspects and sustainability. The student should gain practical experience with concrete tasks as well as insight into the organization of the workplace. Furthermore, the internship aims to enhance the student's ability to take responsibility and provide experiences beyond what is offered within the framework of university education.

Upon completing the course, the student should be able to:

• Plan and prioritize work tasks and seek and evaluate the information needed to independently solve the tasks described in the plan for the internship.
• Describe the operations at the workplace in relation to animal biology issues and describe requirements imposed on the professionals with respect to general skills and subject-specific knowledge.
• Reflect on how the activities in the workplace impact society from a sustainability perspective.
• Propose how the operations in the workplace could be further developed.
• Write a comprehensive internship report in accordance with the learning objectives.

Content

Internship at an external, non-academic organization connected to animal biology, for example, in areas such as behavior, health, welfare, genetics, or conservation biology. The student is responsible for finding an internship placement and proposing an internship plan. The plan should be approved by the supervisor at the external organization. The internship tasks must be relevant to the contents of the program.
