About the course
Aim
The course will develop the student’s understanding of fundamental evolutionary processes and patterns. Having successfully completed the course, the student is expected to be able to:
- account for the evolutionary processes that affect genetic variation and their relative importance in different contexts
- simulate evolutionary processes to predict evolutionary change
- explain and discuss evolutionary processes and phenomena based on scientific literature
Content
The course focuses on how selection and random processes change allele frequencies, and how this is connected to evolution of phenotypes. The course further develops how specific genetic and environmental conditions result in different evolutionary outcomes, such as life histories, sexual selection and conflict and cooperation within and between different levels of genetic organization.
