About the course
Aim
The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge of the structure and function of the cell. After passing the course the student is able to:
- explain the structure and function of organelles and other structures of the eukaryotic cell
- perform basic laboratory work
Content
Cell biology covers basic structure and function of eukaryotic cells. Cell membranes are studied as well as organelles, the cytoskeleton, photosynthesis, cellular communication and the extracellular matrix. The course also gives an introduction to biological laboratory work, where you learn how to handle biological material and apply established methods and instruments, among others the light microscope. One of the laboratory practicals on the course is part of the track Qualitative Laboratory Work with Reflection (Kvalitativt Laborativt Arbete med Reflektion, KLA-R). This track is part of the courses with molecular biology labs in the program. On the KLA-R lab you will work independently in the lab, receive feedback on your practical work and be given the opportunity to reflect on your development as a laboratory practitioner.
