About the course
Aim
The course illustrates how history is used to create, maintain and reproduce meaning and power, how history is used for different purposes, and how historical consciousness functions on a collective and individual level. The course also provides knowledge of how “uses of history” can be a part of history teaching in schools. After completing the course the student should be able: - to describe theories concerning the use of history and historical consciousness - to discuss and analyze uses of history based on historical and contemporary examples - to integrate and apply the acquired theoretical subject and didactic knowledge in a written work
Content
The course deals with how interpretations of the past are used to create and reproduce meaning. The course also problematizes how history is used in ways that affect people differently depending on their gender, ethnicity, etc.
