About the course
Aim
After completion of the course the student shall be able to
- account for theoretical frameworks and previous research that underpin the use of natural environments in education
- plan for and perform outdoor teaching in natural environments
- resonate about pedagogical and didactical implications from outdoor school.
Content
The course considers outdoor teaching and learning (outdoor school), mainly from a Scandinavian perspective, but in relation to an international context. Theoretical frameworks and previous research supporting the didactical choice of outdoor teaching, with a particular focus on natural environments, are discussed during the course. The main content in focus in the course comes from the field of biology, and the course aims to provide deepened knowledge about Swedish nature and ecosystems. Teaching activities directed to different ages are practiced and discussed, and the student have the possibility to focus on their own area of interest.
