About the course
Aim
By the end of the course the student will be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
- Summarize and identify issues within current research in the field of cellular and molecular immunology
- Explain how the immune system normally is regulated and how aberrations in immune regulation can lead to immunological and inflammatory diseases
- Explain principles of immunomodulatory treatment
Competence and skills
- Plan and conduct a given laboratory experiment to investigate immune responses in vitro, and analyze and interpret data from this
- Identify, summarize and present current research in immunology in oral and written form
Judgement and approach
- Reflect on and discuss current research in immunology in order to critically evaluate new hypotheses in the field
Content
In the course, the student delves into cellular and molecular immunobiology and medical immunology. The student focuses particularly on the regulation of the immune system and how defects in the regulation can lead to disease. More specifically, the course includes:
- General immunobiology
- Immunogenetics
- Immunopathology
- Immunological methods, especially measurements of cytokines and chemokines
- Regulation of the immune system and homeostasis
- Immunological diseases: autoimmunity, allergy, inflammation, infections, and immunological aspects of cancer
- Immunotherapy
- Examiner
- Maria Jenmalm
- Main field of study
- Medicinsk biologi
