About the course
Aim
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- account for central fundamental features of the political development of ideas, from the renaissance to present day, with focus on the relation between political vision and social progress- compare and analyse central texts in the field, based on issues that relate to modern political philosophy- identify and, in text, analytically apply concepts and analytical instruments that have been and are central to the theoretical democracy discussion- in a scientifically justified way, formulate relevant research issues in the area and relate these to sustainable development.
Content
The course covers the political development of ideas from the renaissance to present day, based on a power critical and ideological perspective. The political ideas and ideologies are discussed particularly in relation to a gender perspective. Discussed in the course are original texts written by different political theorists, concerning concepts and figures of thought that are relevant to the discussion about democracy, power, sustainability, inclusion, gender equality and criticism in relation to society and social progress.
