Aim
Efter avslutad kurs ska den studerande kunna:
- på engelska uttrycka sig språkligt korrekt i både tal och skrift i enlighet med grammatiska strukturer och ett grundläggande formellt och akademiskt engelskt ordförråd
- på formell engelska författa text som följer vedertagen praxis för struktur, innehåll och referenshantering
- språkligt korrekt hantera kontrastiva skillnader mellan engelska och svenska
- redogöra för och tillämpa grundläggande grammatisk terminologi
- språkligt analysera engelsk text
- identifiera och korrigera vanliga grammatiska fel
- definiera och tillämpa språkvetenskapliga begrepp
- tillämpa språkvetenskapliga metoder
- på engelska muntligt presentera och diskutera samtida samhällsföreteelser i engelsktalande länder
- korrekt uttala ljud i fonetisk skrift
- uttala engelska ljud enligt vedertagna uttalsnormer
- på muntlig och skriftlig engelska diskutera och analysera engelska litterära texter, med utgångspunkt i grundläggande litteraturvetenskapliga metoder och begrepp

Content
Kursen är uppdelad i tre delkurser.
Engelsk språkfärdighet, 10 hpI delkursen ges en systematisk genomgång av engelsk grammatik med tillämpningsövningar. Dessutom behandlas skriftlig språkfärdighet, grundläggande akademiskt skrivande på engelska, inklusive referenshantering, samt översättning för att utveckla den skriftliga språkfärdigheten.
Engelska språket i teori och praktik, 10 hpI delkursen behandlas grundläggande grammatiska begrepp samt en orientering i valda områden inom språkvetenskap med inriktning mot det engelska språket. I delkursen ingår att på saklig grund diskutera samtida samhällsföreteelser såsom skol- och valsystem, politiska partier och aktuella politiska frågor i engelsktalande länder. Vidare ingår uttal i det engelska språket.
Modern engelsk litteratur, 10 hpI delkursen introduceras grundläggande litteraturvetenskapliga metoder och begrepp. Dessa appliceras i diskussioner och analyser av modern engelskspråkig litteratur där fokus även läggs på litteraturens koppling till samtida samhällsföreteelser.
