      About the course

      Aim

After passing the course, the student should be able to

      • analyze direct current circuits.
      • analyze alternating current circuits.
      • analyze simple amplifiers based on transistors.
      • analyze, dimension, simulate, build, measure, and use active filters based on operational amplifiers.
      • Build analog circuits and verify them using measurements.
      • Perform measurements with – and account for function, properties and sources of errors in – common measurement instruments and high frequency properties in cables.
      • Explain the cause of – and suggest measures to counteract – electrical disturbances.

      Content

      • Direct current theory: Basic laws and relations. Voltage, current, resistance. Thévenin and Norton equivalents. Nodal analysis. Power.
      • Alternating current theory: The complex method. Capacitance, inductance, transformers. Power. Maximum power transfer. Introduction to filter theory.
      • Electronics: Diodes, transistors. Amplifier technology. Calculation of Q-point. Dimensioning amplifiers. Small signal analysis. Operational amplifiers. Logarithmic gain units.
      • Measurement Technology: Basic characteristics of instruments (voltage souces, multimeters and digital oscilloscopes) for measurements of basic electrical quantities. High frequency properties of cables. Sources of measurement errors. Causes of and methods to avoid or reduce electrical disturbances.
