About the course

Aim

Discrete Event Simulation (DES) is a methodology for system analysis. The DES methodology includes abstraction, data collection, modeling, validation and verification, experimentation, output analysis, and implementation of simulation results.

The student is expected to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Apply DES methodology that include abstraction, data collection, and modeling to analyze a real system’s performance
  • Apply DES methodology that includes validation and verification, experimentation, and output analysis to analyze a real system’s performance
  • Practically apply DES methodology by building simulation models of manufacturing and logistics systems
  • Evaluate the use of DES in a decision-making context

Content

  • Fundamental concepts in discrete-event simulation.
  • Conceptual modeling.
  • Input modelling.
  • Software Arena specific modelling.
  • Validation and Verification.
  • Model experimentation.
  • Simulation Methodology.
  • The practice of simulation as a decision-making tool.
