About the course
Aim
The aim of this course is to present a number of application areas within logistics, where quantitative methods are especially suitable. After the course, the students should be able to:
Written examination:
- Part 1: explain and create simple models in decision theory
- Part 2: use different models for inventory control and planning resources in operations.
- Part 3: conduct an investment analysis taking into account how different aspects affect the present value of future cash flows.
- Part 4: Carry out project planning while aware of how stochastic process times can affect the outcome of a plan.
Case study:
- generate a queueing model for simple logistics cases
- use dynamic inventory control, cyclical planning, and lead time reduction through order splitting.
Laboratory:
- use simulation models for simple logistics cases
