About the course
Aim
The course aims to provide an introduction to the degree programme of Urban Engineering and Logistics (S) by presenting the urban engineering field with a focus on transport systems. A starting point is the role of the engineer in societal development, with both historical elements and future perspectives. The course creates a frame of reference for what an engineer from the S programme can work with. Sustainability and digitalisation are important perspectives, and ethical considerations are also addressed. The course introduces the student to project-based work and covers literature searches, technical report writing and oral presentations in project form. Oral and written argumentation is covered in a separate exercise.
After the course, the student should be able to:
- give examples of work tasks for an engineer in the urban engineering and logistics field.
- search for and acquire information about a selected issue in urban engineering and logistics and understand different approaches.
- discuss societal, ethical and equality aspects of the development, sustainability and digitalisation of the transport system.
- present a selected issue in urban engineering and logistics orally and in writing in a group.
- argue orally and in writing for different positions on a current issue in urban planning and logistics.
Content
The course consists of several integrated modules, which deal with various issues within the area of urban planning and logistics. These modules are held together by a series of subject-specific lectures and exercises. An important element is also reading course literature, which is discussed in seminars. In parallel, there is a project group assignment covering an issue within urban planning linked to logistics, traffic and/or transport. In addition, a small argumentation assignment is carried out individually.
