About the course
Aim
After the course the student should be able to:
- Explain the different parts of a signal chain for a closed loop mechatronic system
- Control basic mechatronic systems by using a microcontroller
- Perform static calculations on electric and hydraulic actuation systems
- Evaluate and choose suitable sensors for measuring common physical quantities according to given specifications
- Use computer simulation to analyze a mechatronic system
Content
Sensors: Technology for measuring common quantities in mechatronic systems. Measuring range, accuracy, sensitivity, linearity, repeatability, stability, resolution, dead-band, hysteresis, and dynamics.
Signaler: Analog and digital signals, resolution, binary numbers, serial communication, common communication protocols, signal conditioning, differential signals, impedance matching, pulse-width modulation.
Microcontrollers: Connections, frequency, latency, and throughput. Writing programs for reading input signals and controlling electric motors using an H-bridge. Programming of controllers and basic state machines.
Electro-mechanical actuation systems: electric motors, electric linear actuators, H-bridges, MOSFET transistors.
Hydraulic actuation systems: Pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, basic systems. Relationship between pressure, flow, and efficiency.
