About the course
Aim
The course will give knowledge about fluid dynamics and heat transfer to be able to identify challenges as well as possibilities related to these topics for engineering applications. Ability to find solutions, analyze these and present them in a clear and objective way. After the course the student will be able to
- Describe and explain fundamental concepts, physical principles, relations, and phenomena.
- Conduct simpler numerical investigations including evaluation and analysis of the results.
- Conduct simpler experiments including evaluation and analysis of the results.
- Critically reflect on and evaluate methodology and models.
- Communicate the content in a clear and concise way, thereby showing skills to prioritize among available information and identify the most central for the context.
Content
The content of the course focuses on the fundamental areas of fluid mechanics and heat transfer, including between them, from different perspectives. Topics covered within fluid mechanics are e.g. fundamental relationships for fluids in motion, boundary layers, separation, impulse, flow around objects, and pipe flow. For heat transfer topics included are e.g. basic theories for heat exchange, thermal conduction, convection and radiation, thermal transmittance, technical applications such as a heat exchanger. Moist air: fundamentals concepts and relations. The psychrometric chart and its use.
