About the course
Aim
The course aims at providing the students knowledge about sound and acoustics, as well as AI applications within the field of audio. After the course the student should be able to:
- Use concepts and methods and solve problems within the field of audio.
- Explain various acoustic phenomena and techniques used within the audio field, including artificial intelligence.
- Perform measurements, analysis, and signal processing of audio signals, including applications of artificial intelligence/machine learning, and present and interpret the results.
- Design and implement a technical application or conduct a literature study related to audio, and communicate results and conclusions both orally and in writing.
Content
- Basic description of sound waves and physical phenomena related to them, e.g. wave propagation, resonance, interference phenomena, sound pressure, and sound measurement techniques.
- Sound propagation and room acoustics, e.g. absorption, diffusion, comb filtering, reverberation time, and room modes.
- Psychoacoustics: human perception of sound and its applications.
- Introduction to digital audio, signal processing, and sound analysis
- Sound recording, sound reproduction, audio processing, and sound effects.
- Applications of artificial intelligence in the audio field, for example speech recognition, noise reduction, sound synthesis, and sound effects.
