About the course

Aim

The course will consolidate and develop the student's ability to plan, lead and carry out industry-related project work in biomedical engineering in a professional manner. After completing the project course, the student should be able to independently:

  • Acquire, analyze and synthesize knowledge from different disciplines related to biomedical engineering to solve complex problems in new contexts.
  • Plan and execute projects according to a given project model, from requirement specification to final presentation, including management, team collaboration and technical problem solving.
  • Document and present project results via appropriate media.
  • Document a life cycle assessment (LCA) that considers relevant aspects of environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
  • Reflect on and consider sustainability aspects in the planning and implementation of a project.
  • Show the ability to act based on life cycle analysis to influence the surrounding society (locally, nationally, or globally) to create a more positive impact (socially, economically, sustainably, etc.).

Content

The project course has a biomedical engineering focus where previously acquired knowledge and new knowledge are used to solve a biomedical engineering challenge in a group. The projects are usually application-focused and can vary from year to year. Examples of projects are: body-worn sensors, bio-optical imaging and diagnostic systems, biomedical model analyses, medical information systems and diagnostic imaging. The projects are of a prototype nature but will show the possibility of continued product development and how the product may affect the surrounding society.
